Lightworks redefine cost of networking

With the introduction of new V1.5 software, now shipping, Lightworks has re-defined the cost of networking by including low bandwidth shared storage networking as a standard feature.
Multiple Lightworks Touch systems can be connected together via Ethernet to provide centralised storage for projects using low bandwidth (up to 10:1 compressed) material. This feature combines sophisticated workgroup editing with Lightworks' simple and intuitive approach. Networking is totally transparent, with editors enjoying the same speed and responsiveness they would have running a local project.
Any Lightworks Touch system on the network can access any shot at any time. Multiple systems can be digitising and/or editing projects and material from (virtually unlimited) RAID protected storage simultaneously. As soon as a shot is digitised (or imported from a foreign source), instant access is provided.
The Lightworks Touch also provides optional high bandwidth workgroup editing where multiple systems are connected via a fibre channel network to provide centralised storage for projects with high bandwidth (up to 1.1:1) material. A number of Lightworks Touch customers have already benefited from high bandwidth networking, such as Universal Pictures’ ‘Bruce Almighty’, and current productions, ‘Little Black Book’ (Revolution Studios) and Martin Scorsese's 'The Aviator'.
In the broadcast arena, Lightworks is contributing to the effectiveness of broadcast workgroup editing with "Direct to Disk" recording. The Lightworks Touch can interoperate with leading multi-channel digitising stations such as Gee Broadcast’s GEEVS product line. Material may be recorded directly from the set onto centralised storage and editing can begin immediately. Five Lightworks Touch systems and six GEEVS digitising stations are currently in use at Mersey Television in Liverpool to cut 'Hollyoaks', a daily half hour soap drama. The system uses 'Direct to Disk' recording via a high bandwidth fibre channel network.
