EIFF announce winners of student film competition
Three students from Edinburgh College of Art have won a national film talent competition organised by joint sponsors Nokia and Orange as part of this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Robbie Morrison, from Belfast, along with Hazel Baillie and Charlotte Bates from Edinburgh are the young talented film-students chosen from film students across the nation to have their ‘film sting’ shown in front of every major movie shown at the film festival this August.
The competition, launched in June this year, asked film students from across the nation to produce a creative and entertaining 15-second film sting with the theme of ‘Movies and Mobiles’, whilst communicating the message, ‘please turn off your mobile phone’.
The Edinburgh students’ entry, entitled ‘Be Gone with the Phone’, takes a humorous look at how a ringing mobile phone in a cinema auditorium could steal a special movie moment. The students used ‘Gone with The Wind’ as inspiration for their entry, using the voice-over from the classic Rhett Butler and Scarlet O’Hara (‘Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn’) scene.
The winning team receive a £1000 cash prize in addition to having their work showcased at the festival, set to be viewed by up to 45,000 people including creative and film industry luminaries, over the course of the three-week festival.
