Trilogy's Mercury IP installed at BAE Systems

Trilogy Broadcast have installed their ground-breaking Mercury IP communications system into the Battlespace Management Evaluation Centre at BAE Systems in Farnborough.
Mercury will be used to provide real-time bi-directional communication over data links between two training and evaluation simulators - enabling them to be connected and therefore, offering more realistic simulations of battlefield conditions. Each site is equipped with a 700-21-00 Black Box 1 interface unit with multiple desktop control panels connected to each one. In addition, one site also uses a 'virtual panel' running on a PC. In order to connect the Mercury IP communications system to the standard telephone network, a 2 to 4 wire telephone hybrid is provided, allowing calls to be received from outside sources.
A particular feature of the system is a requirement that control data and voice packets are handled separately. Mercury meets this need with its separate paths for voice and data, and allows voice data to be manipulated or distorted to more closely simulate live conditions whilst allowing the control routing data to pass through the system unchanged.
