UK manufacturers opt for Omnitek

Test and measurement manufacturer OmniTek has announced that another three important UK broadcast equipment manufacturers have purchased and installed OmniTek technology.
Tandberg Television, Quartz Electronics and AccuScene have all selected the PC-based, application-driven test and measurement solution to further the development of significant elements of their product ranges.
Mike Hodson, OmniTek's managing director, said: "Companies of this stature purchasing our solution continues to validate our flexible and cost-effective approach to the test and measurement marketplace."
Tandberg Television, a leading innovator in digital broadcasting and provider of transmission equipment to the broadcast, cable, satellite, terrestrial and telecommunications markets, has purchased and installed two OmniGen units. OmniGen is a multi-format digital test signal generator with full-motion sequence playout capability. One of the Tandberg systems also contains OmniView, the advanced multi-format digital waveform monitor and signal analyser package.
Tandberg purchased the equipment in order to carry out design verification testing of two new HD products - the E5780 HD encoder and the TT1280 HD receiver. Mike Sparks, design resource manager with Tandberg, explains that the ability of the OmniTek system to support a wide range of HD formats was essential in the test process. He added: "The ability to capture full-motion video sequences for more detailed examination also proved to be a winner."
Sparks also confirms that for production testing, the ability to use moving images is essential for MPEG compression systems - a simple test generator is not sufficient. Tandberg will continue to use OmniTek's solutions for future product development.
Quartz, leader in routing and master control - designing, manufacturing and supplying a wide range of products for all major signal formats and transmission standards - has purchased and installed an OmniGen and an OmniView. Quartz is currently developing a range of HD products and purchased the OmniTek technology specifically for the testing of a new HD presentation mixer.
This test and measurement technology will now form the core of Quartz' HD research and development test equipment.
Scotland-based AccuScene, set up in 2002 by founder David Macintosh, designs specialised viewfinders, personal viewers and projectors. Currently finalising the development of an HD viewfinder for US film camera manufacturer Panavision, AccuScene purchased an OmniGen as the main HD reference source to help facilitate this project along with other HD developments. According to Macintosh, the OmniGen is in daily use by the company's engineers. "This is an essential piece of test equipment supporting our HD product development activities," he said.
