ARRI's Ultra Wide Zoom Begins Shipping

ARRI's new Ultra Wide Zoom UWZ 9.5-18/T2.9 will begin shipping in May, the company has said. Boasting an image circle of 34.5 mm, the optical performance of the UWZ is optimised for modern digital sensors, as well as film mirror shutter cameras.

The zoom was designed for 4K, 6K and 8K camera applications. Telecentric optical design of the UWZ allows a uniform field illumination, from the center to the very corners of the image. Built-in ARRI Lens Data System (LDS) functionality provides lens metadata as zoom, focus and aperture settings.
Optimized for VFX applications, the UWZ is suitable for plate shots or any situation where maximum image quality is sought. Distortion is at a level of less than 1% at 9.5 mm and less than 0.1% at 18 mm. Due to a new multilayer, anti-reflective coating, flare and veiling glare are reduced, while exchangeable matte box interfaces ensure adequate sun protection whether filters are used or not.
Shipping in May, the ARRI UWZ is listed a price of $50,900.
