RTS To Hold First Ever Birmingham Summit
The Royal Television Society (RTS) has announced the first ever Birmingham Film and TV summit.
A joint development by the RTS Midlands Centre, Film Birmingham and Birmingham City Council, the Summit will take the form of a half-day event on 13 March 2014 at the Library of Birmingham.
The purpose of the Summit, according to RTS, is to "bring together Birmingham and the Midlands media community to collaborate on new ways in which to increase production in the region".
The event’s key note speaker will be Tim Key, Producer of BBC One drama By Any Means, who will discuss why he chose to shoot in Birmingham and how he made it happen.
There will also be a number of workshops with industry experts, including how to get into and sustain a career in the media as a writer with Claire Bennett (Doctors, Holby City), Keith R Lindsay (The Green Green Grass, Birds of a Feather) and William Gallagher (Doctor Who Radio); and how to raise finance for your production with Simon Heath, Creative Director at World Productions (Line of Duty, The Bletchley Circle, Outlaws); Anna Mansi, Head of Certification at the BFI; and Pip Piper, Co-founder of Blue Hippo Media (Last Shop Standing, The Insatiable Moon).
Delegates will alos be given the chance to attend a range of breakout sessions and network with people from across the industry based in the region.
The event will culminate with the annual RTS Midlands Centre Baird Lecture, which is held to highlight developments in technology that have had "a profound effect on production in many forms".
This year’s lecture will be delivered by Mars El Brogy (pictured), Digital Producer for London Live, which will be the first 24 hour entertainment channel devoted exclusively to the Capital and is due to launch on 31 March.
Mars will discuss the integration of social and digital into broadcast. Previous speakers have included Mark Thompson, former BBC Director General, Martha Lane Fox, founder of lastminute.com and John Ryley, head of Sky News.
