DASH Disability Film Festival To Visit Arts Venues in Birmingham And Wolverhampton

Mac in Birmingham and Light House in Wolverhampton have announced that they will be taking part in the UK DASH Disability Film Festival 2010.
This event will take place simultaneously in venues across the country on December 3, the International Day of Disabled People. Admission to the festival is free.
The unique one-day festival will kick off at both venues with a selection of films from Oska Bright, the UK's only festival of filmic work produced by individuals with learning disabilities. This will be followed by the first national screening of the UKFC funded disability short film project Magic Hour. In the tradition of films such as Paris J'Taime and Tickets, Magic Hour is an anthology of short stories by fiver different directors who each have a disability.
Then at mac in the evening there will be a chance for audiences to see the classic BBC film Raspberry Ripple (1986) starring Faye Dunaway. To round things up a selection of archive footage will be screened featuring the Leicester Cripples Guild of the 1920s and a fantastic short film about the shortest woman in the world who lived in Bromsgrove.
Light House will host a free introduction to Directing Workshop for 19 - 25-year-olds as part of the festival and organised by Film Nation: Shorts.
Light House Marketing Coordinator Lindsay Wiggin said: "Light House has been host to the Disability Film Festival since 2008 and we are excited to announce its return this winter. It is great that this year the festival will extend its reach; taking place simultaneously at max and Light House alongside other venues around the country, giving film lovers all over the region and the UK a chance to take part."
mac Chief Executive Dorothy Wilson said: "We are very pleased to be a part of DASH Disability Film Festival 2010. The engaging, surprising and thought-provoking array of work demonstrates the depth and diversity of creative talent in the UK today, which mac is delighted to support."
The UK Disability Film Festival is produced by DASH and is supported by Arts Council England, Screen WM, UK Film Council, The Eveson Charitable Trust, The Elmley Foundation, Outside Centre, Oska Bright, 104 Films (Magic Hour), BBC and the Media Archive for Central England.
