BBC Worldwide wins Queen's Award for Enterprise

BBC Worldwide has won a coveted 2002 Queen's Award for Enterprise for export achievement in the International Trade category.
Winning this prestigious award means BBC Worldwide's achievement in international trade has been judged by a thorough and demanding process to be, quite simply, among the best of UK companies.
Rupert Gavin, Chief Executive, BBC Worldwide said: "This is a great accolade for BBC Worldwide and quite rightly recognises the tremendous job our sales and marketing teams around the world are doing with BBC brands and properties in their respective markets. This success is due to great teamwork and I congratulate everyone who made it possible."
In the three-year review period - 1999, 2000 and 2001 - BBC Worldwide grew its television export business by almost 35% from £145.7 million to £194.8 million.
In addition to financial growth, all aspects of the company's activities - from programme sales to corporate responsibility - were taken into account for the Award. The company had to prove best practice in the areas of: relationship with employees, suppliers, partners, customers and contractors; impact on society; relationship with local communities – at home and abroad; and impact on the environment.
Granted for a period of five years, the Award and Grant of Appointment will be presented later this year to the company at a special ceremony by the Lord-Lieutenant of the County and a local representative of HM The Queen.
BBC Worldwide Limited is the main commercial arm, and a wholly owned subsidiary, of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
Formed in 1994 to develop a co-ordinated approach to the BBC's commercial activities: television, publishing, product licensing, Internet and interactive, BBC Worldwide exists to maximise the value of the BBC's programme and publishing assets for the benefit of the licence payer, and re-invest in public service programming.
BBC Worldwide's turnover in the last financial year (2000/2001) was £587million and £96million in cashflow was returned to the BBC.
