Skillset appoint five regional managers

Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries, has put in place a new operational structure giving it a direct presence across the English regions.
Commenting on the appointment of the regional managers, Skillset Chair Clive Jones, Chief Executive of Carlton TV, and joint MD of ITV, said: “As a Sector Skills Council, Skillset is expected to have a high strategic profile across the UK. The appointment of five regional managers will help to achieve that. Working with regional sector skills panels, made up of senior employers, trade associations, trade union representatives and Regional Screen Agencies, Skillset can effectively deliver its role across England, informed by and responding to local industry needs and priorities.”
The five regional managers are:
  • Phil Nodding for East and West Midlands – Phil joined Skillset after seven years as Film Commissioner with the East Midlands Screen Commission which he helped establish in 1996 - he will be based at Carlton Studios in Nottingham;
  • Trisha Boland for London, South East & East - after working as Project Manager of Skillsbase at BECTU and Television Personnel & Production Talent Manager at Granada Media, Trisha became Director of Skillstrain, the training consortium for the South East, in 2000 before joining Skillset last year;
  • Asma Shah for London, and South East - prior to joining Skillset 18 months ago Asma worked as a Policy Advisor promoting learning through the use of ICT for the New Opportunities Fund, a lottery distribution body awarding funding to health, education and environmental initiatives across the UK;
  • Holly Rowan for North East, North West and Yorkshire – Ms Rowan is based in Manchester and previously worked for Groundwork, an environmental regeneration organisation, as Regional Manager for the North West;
  • Pam Relton for South West - a broadcaster and trainer for over 20 years, Pam will continue to deliver training in the independent sector and the BBC’s researching for TV course whilst working part time for Skillset.

The team of Regional Managers will work closely with local industry employers and stakeholders including Regional Development Agencies, Learning and Skills Councils and Business Links, to identify skills issues and set priorities at a local level.
