SGL Installs FlashNet For Maltese National Broadcaster

Software Generation Ltd (SGL), has announced a recent installation of its FlashNet archive at PBS Ltd., Malta’s national broadcaster.
PBS has 50 years' of historical footage held on U-matic and beta tapes. The primary focus for the broadcaster is to digitise this material so that it can be stored for generations to come.
SGL FlashNet is being used in conjunction with an Avid Interplay Archive system sitting between an Avid Interplay PAM and a SpectraLogic tape library.
The workflow moves clips required for transmission imported into the Avid Interplay with FlashNet automatically creating backup copies on tape stored in the SpectraLogic library.
In-house PBS productions and news production material is also held on the Avid Interplay and stored to the library in the same way. The workflow is also configured to enable FlashNet to restore material to the production environment.
Alan Gatt, Technical Manager, DAB Electronica Co. Limited, who oversaw the project says: "We chose the SGL archive because of the longstanding technical partnership with Avid Interplay. This upgrade has come at a key time because PBS Ltd. has also just launched its first two HD channels."
