Thor Stars Declare London 'The New Hollywood'
Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth have been extolling the virtues of London as a film setting, ahead of the release of their new film, the latest chapter in the Norse god superhero franchise 'Thor: The Dark World'.
"It's the new Hollywood," said Mr Hemsworth at a press conference in the capital.
"The nice thing about here is that there are brilliant studios, but there are beautiful locations to take advantage of, and I love the aesthetic this film has because we get to see London."
Ms Portman added: "You can really have such a rich career here between the theatre, movies and TV all in London. It's pretty great that it can all be done in the same place.
"I love working here, though, and I'm envious of British actors and British crews, because American and Australian actors, we end up like Gypsies, moving cities all the time."
One of the most recognisable parts of the city to appear in the new movie, released on 30 October, is the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, which is destroyed after an enormous space ship crashes into it.
Other locations include Oxo Tower Wharf restaurant, Old Royal Naval College, Leadenhall Market and Blythe House.
Mr Hemsworth added: "Most of these films are set with New York or American cities as background, and I love that difference. Yeah, I do love shooting here."
