Thomas Cook Televsion launches with DVCPRO

Thomas Cook Television recently launched their digital television channel, the first of its kind in Europe, with DVCPRO.
Having signed a contract with leading branded televsion specialists, enteraction tv, to produce and run their channel, a significant number of Panasonic DVCPRO format VTRs and camcorders were acquired for enteraction tv’s multi-camera studio and post production facilities in Vauxhall, London.
The DVCPRO equipment, consisting of four AJ-D610WA camcorders, three studio cameras AW-E600 with full robotic pan and tilt and six DVCPRO VTRs AJ-D450, is used for shooting and editing high quality content from the full range of tour operator and travel-related products sold by Thomas Cook. The channel is broadcast 24 hours, seven days a week.
Adrian Swift, Creative Director for enteraction tv and Project Leader for Thomas Cook TV, commented: “To date we have used the camcorders in the heat of the Mediterranean and Mexico through to the cold on the ski slopes this winter. The quality of the pictures has been outstanding and the equipment has been able to handle all challenging situations”.
"Our priority was to create a completely scaleable yet low cost solution for Thomas Cook. Having built up an excellent working relationship with Panasonic who supplied their high-performance and reliable DVCPRO equipment for one of our previous projects, the obvious choice was Panasonic”.
The enteraction tv studio is a working example of quality television production at a fraction of the price of traditional television studios. The company provides an end-to-end solution for new market entrants in digital television. Services include consultancy, production, design, distribution and management of programmes and channels.
Panasonic Broadcast Europe, part of the giant electronics group Matsushita, is one of the leading suppliers to the broadcast and professional media markets in Europe. Their headquarters are based in the UK and they have major operations in Germany and other key European markets.
DVCPRO, developed by Panasonic, is a new generation of flexible, highly cost effective, digital component equipment encompassing all broadcast acquisition and production equipment. The format is supported by many of the worlds leading broadcast manufacturers such as Avid, Quantel, SGI and Tektronix.
DVCPRO is rapidly being adopted by many of the world’s leading broadcasters, satellite and cable TV operators and production companies as they invest in new digital equipment.
