'What Future for Digital Media?' Asks Dischromentary
Following the recent administration of several well-known high street brands, and particularly HMV and Blockbuster, Dischromatics has drawn on its experiences from nearly 25 years in the multimedia industry to produce a short documentary, filmed and edited by the company’s marketing arm, Dischro Creative.
Produced over the course of a week at the company’s offices in Abercarn, and on location at the Wales Millennium Centre and on the streets of Cardiff and at Music Wales in Bridgend, Managing Director Gareth Spencer presents the company’s first 'Dischromentary', discussing the rise and fall in demand for physical media in recent times. With the help of experts and leaders in the field, 'What future for Digital Media?' considers a world without a high street, and what we may miss without some of these recognisable stores.
Whilst it is evident most shops have suffered in the face of on-line competition in recent times, particularly from multi-national retail giant Amazon, and that sales of physical media have been further hit by the establishment of download sites like Apple’s I-Tunes, there are however clear signs that this is not yet the end for CDs and DVDs, with users pointing to the extra dimension discs offer to the users experience.
Thanks to the success and level of interest this film has generated Dischromatics and Dischro Creative will be collaborating again during the year to produce further films on topics of interest.
