Munro Associates design new film facilities in Slovenia
Slovenian film studios, Viba Film, have commissioned UK studio design consultancy Munro Associates to work on their new production and post-production facilities currently under construction in Ljubljana.
Housed in a massive warehouse, the new facilities are funded by the Slovenian government as part of a long-term plan to support the Slovenian film industry and encourage local filmmakers to make movies in the national language. However, while Viba Films aims to attract much of their business from the local market it will also be selling itself to the international film production industry.
The new facilities will provide post-production via a mixing theatre, a preview theatre, a central machine room, a recording studio with a Foley stage and voice over booth and various edit suites. There will also be two large sound stages ranging in size from 720m to 460m.
Munro Associates are responsible for the acoustic design of the entire facility, including the sound stages and preview theatre. The company has many years experience in the film sound arena, having previously designed facilities for Shepperton, De Lane Lea, Berliner Synchron, and Joinville in Paris.
Viba Film's Vladimir Perunicic said: "Munro Associates has a worldwide reputation for delivering high-quality solutions and this was the deciding factor in our choice. Our collaboration with Munro Associates immediately gives the facility a warrantee for excellence that will assist our success in a highly-competitive market."
The project's construction is now in its second stage and the film studios and sound stages will be up and running by Autumn 2002. The remaining facilities, including the sound stage, will be opened by next spring.
