VDC Big Interview Part 2
Niall Holden, CEO and Founder, of VDC Trading, reflects on the firm's 25 year history and looks to the year ahead.
RFV: How has the supply of equipment changed since the company began?
NH: What has changed is that there has been an increasing emphasis on capital intensive kit, such as SAT Trucks, which cost millions of pounds – and the desire for up to date information if not live broadcasts. What hasn't changed is that cables are often not thought of until the last moment. That's where we've really excelled, providing technically bespoke, high performance solutions to a tight timescale.
RFV: What were the highlights of 2012?
NH: From a business perspective the continuation of our year on year growth is obviously a big highlight – particularly in this economic environment. As is the fact that over 90% of all our orders continue go out to our customers the same day.
In terms of projects, being involved in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee broadcasts and the Olympic Opening and Closing ceremonies was a fantastic experience and it was an honour to play a significant role in what was an incredible summer for Britain.
RFV: Can you tell us about any challenges you have faced and overcome recently?
NH:With an ever increasing amount of business now coming from overseas, we've had to start taking into account factors such as differing and emerging international specifications and varying times to market. To overcome this we've developed partnerships around the world, such as with Amber Technology in Australia and OM Networks in Russia, which have proved successful and have added an extra dimension to the business and help to satisfy a growing demand for Van Damme products by the broadcast and pro-a/v community around the world.
