IPV IBC Preview

At IBC 2012, IPV, a global leader in Media Asset Management and largest independent supplier of low bitrate, frame-accurate video technology to the broadcast and professional video sectors, will launch new software tools designed to significantly boost productivity and creativity in live and fast turnaround production environments.
The new tools, including extensions to the established Curator and Teragator products, provide tight links to editing systems as well as comprehensive support for service oriented architectures (SOA).
Real-time media asset management and workflow automation
The IPV Process Engine, developed as a component of IPV’s Curator asset management system is now available as a stand-alone production workflow automation product. It provides the bridge between devices in the content chain including traffic systems, live production and desktop editing environments such as EVS, Avid Interplay, Apple Final Cut and Adobe Premiere Pro through to Playout and VOD delivery platforms. An intuitive workflow design interface simplifies the creation and modification of multiple processes enabling content owners to script and manipulate workflows to meet their specific and ever changing requirements.
Controlling metadata using IPV Metadata Central
IBC 2012 sees the European launch of a new application, Metadata Central, a product of the IPV Teragator system. Metadata Central uses the power of the semantic web to mine multiple disparate sources of data including in-house databases, subscription feeds and social networks transforming them into a unified source for logging or use across the enterprise. The benefit of semantic analytics is not just simplification: it allows richer, more complex search filters to be defined, leading to greater productivity and better targeted content being delivered more quickly.
IPV will also be demonstrating the Curator Live Logger with its multi-camera, controlled vocabulary, annotation tools for live sports and reality entertainment programming. This HTML based web interface allows remote logging to be sent dynamically into the Curator database which in turn, via a web services API, provides a mechanism to directly export media into IPV's Conform Farm or a finishing environment, such as Avid Media Composer, while taking full advantage of their Group Clip functionality.
"Our Process Engine can be configured independently of our production asset management system," said Nigel Booth of IPV. "Metadata Central is also a powerful tool which can be used independently or in conjunction with other IPV solutions to tailor workflows, achieve efficiencies and help create more imaginative topical content."
"The advantages of SOA infrastructures are finally being realised by broadcast system architects." Booth continued. "This approach enables intelligent processes to be dynamically assigned based on file and metadata analysis. This provides confidence to the client to know that the workflows will persist thereby reducing the need for human intervention. The use of SOA is particularly useful when integrating multiple vendor solutions into the Process Engine as we have constructed the interface to include individual activities that can be dragged and dropped into a workflow design.
"We see these IPV products taking a leading role in high pressure, fast turnaround production environments alongside our traditional role in asset management."
Also new at IBC 2012 is version 5.0 of IPV SpectreView, the low bitrate video advanced streaming technology for which the company is well known. The latest release incorporates the full range of formats and I/O, including DNxHD, MPEG-4 H.264 and support for 22 audio channels. The new release allows the latest and legacy proxy formats to be played back to back on a desktop timeline whilst providing scene change recognition, audio and video scrub, instant fast forward and rewind, all without compromising the IPV guarantee of frame accuracy.
The new standalone Process Engine, Metadata Central, SpectreView 5.0 and the full range of IPV asset management products can be seen at IBC on booth 8.B59. Visitors to IBC will also see the IPVLive plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro on the IPV and Harmonic booth. This tool provides access to live material and an asset management layer such as Curator integrated within the Adobe Premiere Pro interface. For more information on the IPVLive plug-in integration with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 go to www.ipv.com/adobe.
