BBC In-house Entertainment Announce New Commissions
BBC In-house Entertainment today announces the commission of four series for BBC Two and BBC Three, including two brand new series.
David Williams, Creative Director, Entertainment North, said: “We’re thrilled to be adding such a diverse and exciting raft of new series to the existing portfolio of programming based in Salford and growing our in-house output on a Pan-UK basis.”
The Planners (working title) 8 x 60 mins - BBC Two
The Planners is an eight-part observational documentary series that reveals the work of a number of Council Planning Officers from across the UK. Shot over a six-month period, the series follows home owners, property developers and businesses as they navigate the planning process.
Liam Keelan, Controller, BBC Daytime and Pam Cavannagh, Executive Producer Daytime have commissioned the Planners. It will be executive produced by David Williams and Kieron Collins.
Liam Keelan said: “The Planners is a subject area that everyone has an interest in, particularly in these straitened times. Whether you're doing it yourself or experiencing it on your own doorstep, I'm sure this series will be prove very popular with the BBC Two audience.”
Racing Legends 3 x 60 mins – BBC Two
Racing Legends is a new BBC Two series that follows three celebrity car enthusiasts as they re-trace the steps of Great British Racing Legends.
Through a combination of revealing interviews with family and friends and fascinating archive footage, each celebrity will pay tribute to the racing legend by learning what made them great. By charting the highs and lows, the victories and the near-death experiences, the enthusiasts will discover what it took to succeed in a dangerous era of motorsport. They'll learn about the vehicles they drove, the engineering they employed and try to understand what put them in pole position.

Peter Jones Meets… 4 x 60 mins – BBC Two
Peter Jones Meets… is a new commission following on the success of last year's pilot episode where the nation's tallest Dragon interviewed two of the UK's most well-known entrepreneurs. Having exposed a new dimension to his traditional Den persona, Peter will be interrogating more of the country's most successful and inspirational business giants, to find out how they grew their companies, the challenges they faced along the way, and work out what the anatomy of success looks like.
Peter Jones Meets... has been commissioned by Mirella Breda, Executive Editor Entertainment Commissioning and will be executive produced by Sam Lewens.
Junior Doctors: Your Life In Their Hands 7 x 60 mins – BBC Three
The third series of the hit BBC Three series Junior Doctors, which follows a group of new doctors as they take their first steps, not to mention their first samples and swabs as a qualified doctor, will be made by Entertainment Production North. Over the course of seven episodes we follow them as they embark on their foundation years in some of the busiest and most challenging departments.
Karl Warner, Executive Editor Entertainment, has commissioned Junior Doctors and will be executive produced by David Williams.
