Reef wins new commission for hit BBC Two series
Reef Television has won a new commission for its successful BBC Two Daytime show ‘Sun, Sea & Bargain Spotting’ – complete with a new presenter, Angela Rippon.
The 15 x 60’ series combines shopping, antiques and the glitz, glamour and beauty of featured locations including the French Riviera, the Champagne region and Tuscany, as contestants scour the flea markets in a bid to find hidden gems.
Helped by professional dealers Mark Franks, James Rylands and Jonty Hearnden, the antiques fans buy the best items they can find within their budget before returning home to sell them at a UK market – hopefully for a profit. The contestant with the most money is the winner.
While the contestants and specialists are hard at work shopping, Angela Rippon takes viewers off the beaten track on a fascinating tour of the region’s chateaux and collections, revealing some little-known antiques goldmines.
Commissioned for BBC Two Daytime by jay Hunt, the new series confirms Reef’s position as an exciting new player in the independent production business. The first series was commissioned when the company was less than 12 months old.
Richard Farmbrough, Managing Director, Reef Television, said: “We’re delighted with the success of Sun, Sea & Bargain Spotting, a unique blend of travel and antiques, which gained 25% of the audience and regularly won its slot. It’s very exciting to strengthen our relationship with BBC with this second series and to welcome Angela Rippon, with her knowledge and experience, to the team.”
Sun, Sea & Bargain Spotting is produced by Alexandra Evans with series editor Richard Farmbrough. It is due for transmission on BBC Two Daytime in early 2006.
Reef Television’s successful series ‘Uncharted Territory’, the essential guide for anyone dreaming of owning a property abroad in exotic locations, starts on BBC Two from Monday November 28 2005.
