Critics Indifferent To ITV’s Titanic

News Image
ITV 1’s latest drama, Titanic, has received tepid reviews from critics following the first episode.
The four-part drama, which coincides with the centenary of the liner’s sinking, has been branded as "damp squib".
Indeed writing in the Daily Telegraph, Sarah Crompton said: "There was both too much and too little to concentrate on, and no-one to care about."
Meanwhile other critics described it as "confusing", criticised its failure to include the audience and said that it "isn’t quite a disaster movie nor quite a drama either."
The mini-series has been generating huge interest on both sides of the Atlantic following the success of Julian Fellowes' Downton Abbey, which won two Emmys in the US last year.
Producer Nigel Stafford Clark said the drama would "tell the story in a way that is bold, fresh and gripping, with all the human detail that television does so well"- but it would seem critics do not agree.
Titanic is thought to be the most expensive drama ever made in the UK, at almost £3 million an episode – considerably more than Downton Abbey.
