BPG Nominations Announced
BBC2 is leading the race for top honours at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards (BPG) with other ITV1, BBC 1 and Channel 4 shows following close.
ITV1’s Appropriate Adult, BBC1’s Great Expectations and Channel 4’s Top Boy will vie with two BBC2 shows, The Hour and The Shadow Line, for the best drama series prize in the 38th year of the awards.
Three BBC2 programmes – Rev, The Hour and Eric & Ernie – lead the race for top honours for the channel. Rev, the sitcom about a London vicar, is nominated as best comedy while The Hour has four nominations: best drama series, best actor (Dominic West), actress (Romola Garai) and writer (Abi Morgan). Eric & Ernie has three nominations, including best single drama.
ITV1’s drama about Fred West, Appropriate Adult, is also up for three awards: best drama series, best actor (Dominic West again) and writer (Neil McKay).
The BPG awards are highly prized by programme-makers because they are selected independently, by journalists who write about TV and radio – correspondents, critics and previewers.
Awards will be presented next month at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
