RTS East Centre Announces Nominations For Awards

The Royal Television Society (RTS) East Centre has announced the nominations for the RTS East Awards 2017. The inaugural awards will take place on 25 May at Norwich University of the Arts. The awards will celebrate the fantastic achievements and magnificent talent of the East of England's television industry.

Abz Love (Abz on the Christmas Farm, Tin Can Island Ltd) and David Whiteley (Inside Out East for BBC) will go head-to-head for Best On Screen Personality of the year; while Jo Taylor (BBC), Nikki Fox (BBC Look East - Norwich) and Tom Barton (BBC Look East - Cambridge) will battle it out for Television Journalist of the Year. Those nominated in the Best New Talent category include: Leigh Milner (BBC Look East - Norwich); Mousumi Bakshi (BBC Look East - Cambridge) and Simon Dedman (BBC News).

In the hotly contested News and Current Affairs categories; the BBC's Inside Out East (Series 30, programme 6) is up against ITV News Anglia's Malcolm Robertson and Sarah Cooper in the Best Current Affairs Feature category. ITV News Anglia East will compete in the Best News Programme category and is up against the Brexit Programme on BBC Look East - Cambridge and a special programme following the murder of Arek Jozwik in Harlow for BBC Look East - Norwich.
 
In factual, The Search For The Lost Manuscript: Julian Of Norwich (Tin Can Island Ltd); Plane Resurrection (Nik Coleman Television Limited); Capability Brown's Unfinished Garden (BBC) and Alderney The Evacuation (Eye Film) will all vie to be named Best Factual Programme.

Miranda's Australian Adventure (Tin Can Island Ltd); Treasure Capitals (Laurence Cawley for BBC) and The Letter (Ember Films) will battle it out in the Best Digital Content category; while Giles Duley - #MoreThanAnImage (Forward), Inside Out: Mini Monet (BBC), The Warreners' Tales: A History of Thetford Warren Lodge (Ember Films) and The Letter (Ember Films) are nominated for Best Short Film. Giles Duley - #MoreThanAnImage (Forward) will also go head-to-head with BBC Look East - Norwich for The Diversity Award and will compete in the Best Promotional Programme category against Leighton Park School (Eye Film) and Happiness Guaranteed (Ember Films).

We are extremely pleased with the number of entries received for our inaugural awards and we are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase the amazing range of talent in the region."
