Kodak Sue Samsung Over Patents
Kodak is suing Samsung over allegations that its patents have been infringed.
The US camera maker said that the claims relate to five of its digital imaging technologies.
Filed in federal court in Rochester, New York, where Kodak is based, the complaint accuses Samsung of infringing five patents, including one for technology already licensed for Samsung products.
Alleged infringements include technology to make an electronic camera capable of "automatically transmitting images... to a service provider using a network configuration file,"
Kodak said in November that selling or licensing patents, as well as refinancing debt, will help determine its ability to continue operating in the next 12 months as declines in the company’s traditional photography business hurt sales and cash reserves.
The American Company last week sued HTC, Apple and Fujifilm Holdings Corp., and also has a case against Research In Motion Ltd.
"We’re continuing on our newly aggressive path" of pursuing licensing revenue from the company’s intellectual property, Christopher Veronda, a Kodak spokesman, said yesterday.
Kodak said on Wednesday that it was seeking bankruptcy protection. That followed an announcement in July that it was looking to sell or license about 1,100 digital imaging patents.
Yesterday the Korean tech-titan, Samsung, announced record investments in its products and offices for 2012.
They plan to invest a record amount of £27bn this year to expand its various businesses.
As the world’s biggest maker of TV’s and memory chips they claims to have strong cash flow and have said they are "willing to make bold bets to get in new technology".
