Soda Pictures Acquires Strawberry Fields
Film London has announced that Strawberry Fields, the latest film produced through its successful micro-budget film-making scheme Microwave, will be distributed in the UK by Soda Pictures.
The film, which will enjoy its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival later this month is directed by Frances Lea and stars an impressive cast of up and coming talent Anna Madeley (In Bruges), Christine Bottomley (The Arbor) and Emun Elliott (Game of Thrones).
Strawberry Fields is a twisted tale of sibling rivalry, sexual awakening and mind games, set over a hot English summer. Gillian (Madeley) attempts to run away from her strange and oppressive sister Emily (Bottomley) and unexpectedly finds Kev (Elliott) and suddenly anything seems possible. Written by Lea and Judith Johnson, Strawberry Fields was produced by Liam Beatty and Lucie Wenigerová. A Spring Pictures production, it was funded by Film London Microwave, in association with BBC Films, and Kent County Council Film Office with assistance of Screen South.
Strawberry Fields will be released in April 2012 as part of Soda Pictures' New British Cinema Quarterly (NBCQ) platform. NBCQ is an initiative designed by independent distributor Soda Pictures to nurture and support young British film-making talent, taking independent films from the major festivals and providing an alternative distribution platform to reach audiences around the UK.
Microwave is the acclaimed and commercially successful ‘training through production’ feature film scheme from Film London and BBC Films with support from Skillset. With the aim of discovering the next generation of UK film-makers, the scheme challenges first or second time film-makers to make a feature length film for no more than £120,000. Film London provides up to £60,000 production funding plus an apprenticeship programme built around the core team, with top level industry mentors providing support, such as Paul Webster, Clio Barnard and Pete Travis.
