Bright Space Technologies Supplies Camera System For British Swimmers' Training
Trade distributor to the AV and broadcast industry, Bright Space Technologies, has announced that it has supplied a Telemetrics Fast track camera system to help train British swimmers at Loughborough University.
The bespoke developed Telemetrics 54 metre motorised camera track now keeps pace with swimmers at the University's centre of Sporting Excellence using wireless video and data control. The project was jointly funded by UK Sport, the nation's high performance sports agency, and British Swimming.
Colin Clarke, Senior Technical Sales & Support Manager at Bright Space Technologies, said: "The Telemetrics robotics solution was selected because of its high quality engineering for broadcast use. However, filming the swimmers presented some unique challenges for the team, culminating in a completely new approach for this solution over a period of three years."
Clarke continued: "The existing track systems made by Telemetrics were designed for use within the studio and centered around super smooth quiet movements accommodating broadcast cameras and the Telemetrics PT heads. The required acceleration curve for the swimming project brought about the development of a new design to accommodate a top speed of up to six metres per second."
The Telemetrics development team spent considerable time researching and integrating power rails to derive a new way of providing the 48 Volt power for the trolley and at the correct current ramp to drive the system over the 54 metres of track.
The Sony BRC PTZ SDI Video out camera is housed in a special plastic flat based dome to overcome the issues of the pool environment and image distortion and is mounted on and powered by the trolley. Control Data and Video are wireless, negating any cable requirements to the trolley.
