Miranda Highlights Its Fully Integrated, IT-based Automated Playout System At NAB

Miranda Technologies will be highlighting its fully integrated IT-based playout solution at NAB (Stand: N2515), which combines highly automated, multi-channel content delivery, rich graphics and advanced monitoring systems.
Called the Playout Glass Cockpit, the new solution tightly integrates the iTX IT-based automated playout with Kaleido multi-viewers, and the iControl Playout Manager facility monitoring. The system also incorporates a range of broadcast infrastructure products, including intelligent switching and loudness management.
Michel Proulx, CTO at Miranda, said: "This tightly integrated playout solution brings together many of our most advanced products to deliver unprecedented cost and workflow efficiencies for broadcasters and playout facilities.
"With the Playout Glass Cockpit, facilities can improve their channel to operator ratios, while also increasing their overall quality of service and decreasing the Mean Time to Repair when problems occur. They also benefit from much greater operational agility, with the ability to quickly add more channels and support new formats."
The iTX IT-based automated playout is at the heart of the system, and it uses enterprise grade IT servers and software to unify and streamline ingest, media management, schedule management, asset management, automation, master control, graphics and multi-format playout. This architecture reduces the complexity of a facility and simplifies maintenance, while improving the quality of service. It also delivers unprecedented resilience and scalability, along with exceptionally fast new channel deployment.
The advanced monitoring capabilities are provided by Kaleido family multi-viewers and iControl Playout Manager facility monitoring, which are tightly integrated with the iTX automated playout. For instance, the multi-viewers display the next event information from the automation, and the facility monitoring shows the health of the overall playout system, including the IT servers and IP network.
This monitoring and control system can incorporate high performance electronic monitoring, using fingerprint detection for content identification and lip-sync error measurement, as well as loudness monitoring and correction. The electronic supervision allows a control room operator to monitor more channels with greater effectiveness, and also respond more rapidly to any signal problems.
