'World first' as Ireland live television goes mobile

Ireland Live Television News has become the "first news broadcaster in the world" to offer its live colour television news broadcast feed to mobile phones globally over the GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) mobile network.
The company believes that this is the start of a new era in which television can be viewed on mobile phones and multi-purpose mobile devices.
The announcement was made by The Anner Media Group, which owns and operates Ireland’s first 24-hour news channel, which has been broadcasting globally for three months from its News Centre in Dublin.
"The Anner Media Group immediately saw the potential of the O2 XDA and our mobile data service to broadcast live TV to people on the move” said Danuta Gray, Chief Executive of O2. The service once again shows Irish innovation and just what's possible via mobile communications".
"Television is going mobile," said Andy Ruane, CEO of Ireland Live Television Networks. "With broadband, television has gone global and now it's going mobile. This is mobile digital television".
The Irish news channel was launched by The Irish Prime Minister, Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, in March 2002 and is now rolling out its broadband service across the US.
Ireland Live Television News is one of three networks in the world to offer such a service, together with CNN and BBC News 24.
The television news channel is available globally on broadband and now on any compatible mobile device such as the new O2 XDA.
