Quangos To Be Abolished

The BBC's Politics Show has reported government proposals to abolish 180 quangos and merge a further 124.
Taxpayer-funded bodies, featured on the leaked list, include the Archives Council and the UK Film Council and Museum.
The Cabinet Office has now ordered a leak inquiry and said it regrets any "uncertainty" for employees.
The list, dated 26 August, was part of a letter from Francis Maude, Cabinet Office Minister to fellow ministers. It includes groups linked to all major government departments.
Question remains over dozens of smaller run bodies, however the abolition of The Health Protection Agency and Audit Commission was confirmed.
The list suggests that 282 quangos will be retained, with 124 merging, 56 subject to "substantial reform" and 180 to be abolished, including the Olympic Park Legacy Company.
Postcom and Ofcom are proposed for merger as, are UK Sport and Sport England and the Gambling Commission and National Lottery Commission.
According to the document, the future of the Student Loans Company, UK Atomic Energy Agency, Central Office of Information, the Carbon Trust and the Environment Agency are yet to be decided.
Eric Pickles, Communities Secretary told the BBC: "We are certainly looking towards removing a number of unaccountable quangos and reducing their costs but we haven't come to a firm view with regard to the numbers. But we will be making an announcement reasonably soon."
