WFTV Mentoring Call For Applications!

Women in Film and Television have announced their new mentoring scheme, which gives women with more than five years experience in the industry the opportunity to be mentored for six months by a key film or TV industry name.
The scheme, which is supported by the UK Film Council and Skillset, aims to encourage and support women who want to stay working in the industry into their thirties and beyond. It has been set up to address specific issues faced by women in TV and film:
  • Skillset research consistently shows that, "women aged 35 or over are under-represented in the workforce, compared with both men of the same age and women aged under 35."
  • Broadcast's 2010 Women in TV survey showed that the gender pay gap, ageism and sexism had all worsened since their first survey in 2006.
  • Why Her?, a joint study from WFTV and Skillset, examined the factors that contribute to the continued career success of women working in the film and TV industry and found that exposure to mentoring, role models, networking and training were significant contributors to success, particularly in areas where women are underrepresented, such as camera, sound and directing.
  • Respondents to Broadcast's Women in TV 2010 survey also said they would welcome practical interventions such as mentoring as a way of countering the obstacles to progression faced by women.
More details and an application form can be downloaded here: http://tiny.cc/wftvmentoring
The deadline for applications is Friday 1st October, 2010.
