Alex Connock Takes Over At RTS North West
Manchester-based Ten Alps Chief Executive Officer, Alex Connock has been elected Chair of the Royal Television Society in the North West - after BBC Entertainment Executive Helen Bullough stepped down following five years in the role.
In the North West the RTS runs events such as the prestigious and well-attended Anthony H Wilson Lecture and the NW Annual Awards (to be held this year on 20th November).
The RTS also coordinates Student Awards, training initiatives, and feedback on the creative and economic wellbeing of television, both regionally and nationally.
"TV in the North West has an incredible creative heritage which Helen has put in the limelight - so my first order of business is to shamelessly copy her achievements in the role," said Connock on taking up the role.
He continued: "Television here is at an exciting but also politically challenging turning point. On the plus side, the imminent arrival of train-loads of BBC producers at MediaCity UK should see production growth, and a change in the genres being produced in the region - particularly into sport and children’s programming.
"But on the downside, some independent producers are reporting tough times in getting commissions for the region out of the networks – so the continued promotion of the North West as a gold standard place to make TV has to be a job worth taking on. Everyone must play a part in getting that message out, as the competition between regions is fierce, and getting fiercer."
