Lynn Redgrave Dies At 67
Actress Lynn Redgrave has died at the age of 67.
The star, who starred in the 1960s hit film Georgy's Girl and had many other successes on stage and screen, died at her home in the US state of Connecticut on Sunday.
"Our beloved mother Lynn Rachel passed away peacefully after a seven-year journey with breast cancer," her children said on Monday.
Her publicist, Rick Miramontez, said she died peacefully in the company of her children, Ben, Pema and Annabel.
Lynn was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2002, had a mastectomy in January 2003 and had undergone chemotherapy.
Her death comes a year after her niece Natasha Richardson died from head injuries suffered in a skiing accident and a month after her older brother, Corin Redgrave, died.
Lynn was an introspective and independent player in her family's acting dynasty. In the 1960s she became a sensation in "Georgy Girl" and later dramatized her troubled past in such one-woman stage performances as "Shakespeare for My Father" and "Nightingale."
she received Oscar nominations for "Georgy Girl" and "Gods and Monsters" and Tony nominations for "Mrs. Warren's Profession," "Shakespeare for My Father" and "The Constant Wife."
She also made appearances on TV in "Ugly Betty," "Law & Order" and "Desperate Housewives."
In 2004, she released a book with her daughter Annabel Clark about her fight against cancer, titled A Mother and Daughter's Recovery from Breast Cancer.
Tributes have been paid to the actress.
Director Michael Winner, who cast Redgrave in one of her first movies, Shoot To Kill, played tribute to a "wonderful person" and a "phenomenal actress, [who] could do comedy, tragedy - anything really - with absolute ease".
Sir Michael Parkinson said Redgrave was "maybe the jolliest and most likeable of all the family".
"She was a good actress, but being a Redgrave I suppose she couldn't help it - it's in their blood, in their marrow. She had a great comedic talent," he said.
Redgrave is survived by her children, six grandchildren, her sister Vanessa and four nieces and nephews.
