RTÉ Radio Reveals Commissioning Open Day
The Irish broadcaster, RTÉ Radio is to host an open day to mark the start of the first formal commissioning round for independent radio productions across its primary services.
The event will mark the formal launch of RTÉ Independent Radio Productions, and sees RTÉ embracing the new statutory requirement to commit a specified amount each year towards the commissioning of independently produced radio programmes.
Taking place in the RTÉ Radio Centre on 31 March, it will introduce those working in the independent radio production sector to the IRP.
Speakers on the day will include station heads from across RTÉ Radio 1, lyric fm, 2fm, Raidio na Gaeltachta, as well as Managing Director Clare Duignan, who will be outlining their visions for their channels and how they see the contribution of the IRP to their future schedules.
Independent producers will also have a chance to find out about the first commissioning round and what is on offer.
Lorelei Harris, Editor of Arts, Features, Drama & Independent Radio Productions, said: "This is the first time such an event has taken place within the Irish radio industry. RTÉ Radio welcomes the opportunity to work with the independent sector in creating a vibrant, dynamic and relevant radio programming for our growing audiences.
"This is a new departure for us all and one in to which we enter with great enthusiasm."
Clare Duignan, Managing Director RTÉ Radio added: "In the coming years, independent productions will gradually become a core ingredient in RTÉ's radio schedules.
"From daytime to evening peak-time, during the week and at weekends, we hope that they will provide some of the most popular programmes on RTÉ Radio, and also some of the most challenging," she said.
