BBC Radio 5 Live Invite Independent Producers

Independent radio production in the North of England has received a boost with the recent announcement by Peter Salmon, Director of BBC North, of a £40,000 Commissioning Fund to make programmes on national radio.
Independent radio production companies based in the BBC North region which encompasses the North West, Yorkshire, the North East, Cumbria, and Lincolnshire will be able to bid for the money to make programmes for BBC Radio 5 Live which moves to Salford Quays in 2011.
This money will be in addition to what the station already spends with indies nationwide currently.
Speaking at the 2nd Radio Production in the North Conference at the Imperial War Museum at Salford Quays, Peter Salmon said: "This region is already a leading light of independent radio production with a real tradition of quality and innovation.
"The fund is a creative kicker to 5 Live and independent radio production in the North as we develop the production base across the region. I can't wait to get to see the great ideas for programmes."
Radio 5 Live Controller, Adrian Van Klaveren, added: "Indies make some of the most creative and successful shows on 5 Live and I'm excited that this fund can help us work with them to develop some of the best ideas in the industry."
