Oscars 'Accolade' Welcomed

British filmmakers have been given a boost with news of this year's Oscar nominations.
Commenting, John Woodward, Chief Executive Officer of the UK Film Council, said: "This year's Oscar contenders reflect the depth of skills across the British film industry and are a good reminder of how independent British talent and creative excellence shine through on the global stage.
"British film remains an international success story, with recognition for talented writers such as Armando Iannucci and the team behind In the Loop, newcomer Carey Mulligan taking her place alongside Helen Mirren and Colin Firth, British animator Nick Park and costume designer Sandy Powell, and the outstanding technical facilities and expertise which attracted bigger budget movies including Fantastic Mr Fox and Sherlock Holmes to shoot here in the UK," he said,
"The many British nominees are to be warmly congratulated and I wish them all the best of luck for the ceremony on March 7."
