Sony Professional Launches First AVCHD Camcorder

The first product of the NXCAM family brand, the HXR-NX5E, has now been revealed by Sony.
The product which utilises the professional implementation of AVCHD technology will bring seamless production workflow.
The entry level file-based camcorder uses both Memory Stick Pro Duo recording media and an optional HXR-FMU128 128GB Flash Memory Unit to offer professionals and semi professionals the very best in hybrid recording. Both the HXR-NX5E and HXR-FMU128 are available throughout Europe.
The HXR-NX5E is the first camcorder by Sony Professional to combine low-cost consumer memory cards with the latest AVCHD technology.
AVCHD has been widely adopted in the consumer camcorder market and with further developments in non-linear editing tools and IT products. Sony has now created a professional offering designed to allow maximum versatility and cost-effective video production.
"There has been a high level of interest in NXCAM since our customers first experienced the HXR-NX5E prototype back in November," said Bill Drummond, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Sony Professional.
"From listening closely to our customers, we feel now is the time to develop a strong AVCHD product line for professionals who want outstanding picture performance and unrivalled flexibility in the way they record content."
Featuring the latest innovations in lens and sensor design, the HXR-NX5E offers outstanding picture performance to professional markets such as event videography and corporate video production. Sony's newly designed G Lens provides excellent resolution, colour and contrast, in combination with 3 x 1/3-inch Exmor CMOS Sensor system using ClearVid array for excellent low-light sensitivity.
The HXR-NX5E can record stunning quality 1920 x 1080 images at 24Mbps (50i or 25p), as well as supporting 720/50p and Standard Definition recording.
The HXR-NX5E also features a GPS function which embeds GPS metadata when recording. Both the time and location can be displayed on playback allowing media assets to be organised efficiently using the content management software supplied with the camcorder. This function is ideal for locating footage from specific geographical locations and displaying the information graphically using third-party mapping software.
Along with the Memory Stick Pro Duo, users are also able to record content on SDHC cards, ensuring compatibility with a wider range of consumer portable devices.
