Digital Vision's Stereoscopic Toolset Grades Streetdance

Digital Vision has broken new ground in Europe by announcing that its stereoscopic toolset is being used to grade the UK’s first 3D feature film StreetDance.
German post production facility, Post Republic will begin grading the full length feature this month using Film Master 2009. The trailer and teaser have already been graded at the facility using the latest Film Master update and have been distributed worldwide.
Set in London and featuring some of Britain's top dance talent, the film tells the story of a street dance crew who, in a bid to win the UK Street Dance Championships are forced to team up with a group of classical dancers. Shot in 3D, rigs were supplied by LA based 3D specialist, Paradise FX who also supplied rigs for major features such as The Hole 3D and My Bloody Valentine.
Post Republic upgraded its Film Master platform in October to the new 2009 release, which includes conforming, grading and monitoring for stereo projects. The Film Master and 2009 upgrade were supplied and installed by German reseller MWA Nova.
Based in Berlin, Post Republic’s grading suite boasts a RealD projection system and silver screen display technology, which applies a polarizing filter system in front of the projector lens and passive polarizing glasses for left eye/right eye separation. The RealD cinema system is currently the most widely deployed 3D projection system in the world. Michael Reuter, Post Republic’s Managing Director, explained: "We upgraded our Film Master specifically for this project and it has worked extremely well. For a reliable calibration in the grading suite we decided to technically replicate the RealD cinema experience. Our graders wear polarized glasses throughout the session watching the grade on the silver screen and finally master onto a stereoscopic DCP. We are very pleased with the results, Film Master’s new toolset has some interesting features and its stereoscopic capability allows you to switch the monitoring between stereo, side by side or blended overlay at the touch of a button meaning it is an ideal platform for grading, final conform and mastering stereo projects."
Post Republic also has a Nucoda HD system in the grading suite in its second facility in Halle. The Nucoda HD, which was used on the StreetDance trailer and teaser, has been used to finish HD and digital projects such as supernatural horror film Outcast and Black Death, due for release next year.
Simon Cuff, Digital Vision’s CEO said: "We are extremely proud to be working with Post Republic on the UK’s first 3D feature film. With increased demand for stereoscopic, the 2009 release provides clients with a toolset that delivers the best pictures for any 3D project with a workflow that is fast and flexible."
