Prime Suspect Series Comes To NBC

NBC and ITV Studios have agreed to a multi-project deal with three pilot commitments from the network over the next two years.
The initial script order is based on the long-running, Emmy Award-winning crime drama Prime Suspect.
The announcement was made by Angela Bromstad, President of Primetime Entertainment at NBC and Universal Media Studios, Lee Bartlett, Managing Director of Global Content at ITV and Paul Buccieri, President and CEO of ITV Studios.
ITV Studios and Universal Media Studios will co-produce Prime Suspect for NBC. Hank Steinberg (Without A Trace) is attached to develop and write the pilot, which will be produced as a two-hour format. The additional two pilot commitments are for one blind-scripted and one blind non-scripted project. The deal was brokered by Greg Lipstone at ICM.
Bromstad said: "We are looking forward to working with Lee and ITV on this property. We wan to carefully choose a couple of iconic titles this year to reinvent and our intention is to create another classic television show from this brilliant original format. Hank Steinberg was key in helping us secure this project and we are incredibly excited about his modern vision for the show."
Bartlett commented: "This deal reflects ITV Studios' ongoing success story in the US. We are delighted to be in business again with NBC and share their passion and excitement for developing Prime Suspect for American television."
Created by Lynda La Plante, Prime Suspect was first broadcast on ITV in the UK, to great critical and public acclaim. By installing a woman as the head of a murder squad, Prime Suspect broke new ground in terms of both gender and the authenticity in the portrayal of the internal dynamics of the police as an organisation.
The tenacious, difficult and brilliant Jane Tennison (Oscar and Emmy winner Helen Mirren) took America by storm. By the time the series ended in 2006, not only had an iconic character come to worldwide acclaim, but the crime series genre itself had been transformed. From a new frame on feminism to the illumination of critical social issues, Prime Suspect and Jane Tennison left an indelible impression.
Admired by critics and audiences alike, Prime Suspect won more than 20 international awards, including Emmys for Outstanding Miniseries and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries for Mirren.
