Bethan Corney Joins Tigress From FIVE

Tigress Productions, an IMG Media company, has announced that Bethan Corney, former FIVE Commissioning Editor, will be joining the company.
Her appointment forms part of a wider company strategy to grow Tigress' Slate of natural history programming for both UK and international broadcasters.
Corney joins Tigress following seven years at FIVE where she was primarily responsible for the channel's natural history output - overseeing more than 800 factual productions since 2002.
She will work alongside Dick Colthurst and Kath Moore with special responsibility for natural history and co-production.
While at FIVE, Corney was responsible for the channel's popular Nature Shock strand, produced by Tigress, and most recently commissioned the incredibly successful documentary from Blink Films, The Lion Cub from Harrods, which pulled in FIVE's second highest ever ratings for its 8pm slot when it aired in March this year. It has also been nominated for a 2009 Grierson Award.
Corney also successfully acquired Ice Road Truckers from FremantleMedia, which in January 2008 drew 2.2 million viewers (8.9%), three times the slot average. In her role at FIVE she was instrumental in creating strategic partnerships between the channel, independents and US networks and distributors in order to secure finance for co-productions.
Corney was at RDF for four years prior to joining FIVE, where she worked as Producer/Director in the company's science unit. Her credits include hit programmes such as Scrapheap Challenge and Six Experiments That Changed the World, both commissioned by Channel 4.
This appointment follows the recent announcement that Tigress Productions has joined forces with Darlow Smithson Productions (DSP), operating under a creative umbrella that sees John Smithson, Creative Director and Executive Chairman of DSP, take responsibility for the creative output of both companies.
Commenting on her appointment, Bethan Corney said: "Tigress has an impressive reputation for its original take on animal and adventure programming and has taken a lead in reinventing natural history programming with its surprising and entertaining story-telling. I'm thrilled and honoured to be joining such an innovative team and look forward to growing their natural history brand with ambitious co-produtions."
