Strong Performance From MHz, Despite Economic Climate

An international independent systems integrator, Megahertz (MHz), has been fully engaged with a number of key worldwide customer installations across a range of projects including earth stations, teleports and high-definition (HD) studios facilities, playout, DSNG and outside broadcast vehicles as well as AVIT installations at venues and stadiums.
With expertise that spans engineering planning, project management, design, product evaluation, through to commissioning, training and support and IT services — alongside in-house capabilities such as CAD design, wiring, coach building and cabinet making — MHz has been actively delivering on its customer’s promise to provide end-to-end workflow solutions that lower operating costs and maximise on their return on investment. Some of these projects include:
Earth Stations & Teleports
With the ever increasing demand for HD content and the corresponding need for additional capacity and bandwidth to match this demand, MHz has spent recent months upgrading and commissioning earth stations for broadcasters including BBC Cardiff and a major Arabic news broadcaster.
Studios
Not only do international broadcasters need to build new state-of-the-art studio facilities, there remains a continuing demand for the upgrade of studios. One such installation is BBC Milbank Studios, where MHz relocated the studios and radio facilities within the original building.
Furthermore MHz has been very active in recent weeks in providing the ongoing studio facilities upgrade at various sites in South Africa for e.tv - including some new additions to its 24-hour news channel.
Playout
With the adoption of digital television and multiplatform delivery comes an explosion of new channel opportunities.
To this end MHz recently supported the installations of new equipment and added services at a number of facilities including those at Telenor London for the launch of a new Al Harbi channel and the completion of an installation at its third news playout facility in India, this time at Mahaa TV in Hyderabad.
DSNG Vehicles
Following MHz's completion of two BT fibre trucks that went into service earlier this year, MHz has been busy with a number of vehicles including the build out of the latest HD-ready DSNG truck for BBC Scotland and an innovative satellite vehicle based on a Humvee H3 model for Telemedia in South Africa.
Outside Broadcast Production Vehicles
MHz recently completed the latest in a line of HD production vehicles for SIS LIVE which went into service directly from the MHz production line to provide one of three MHz-built HD production facilities for BBC Sport’s high-definition (HD) coverage of The Championships at Wimbledon last month. Alongside its sister truck — OB 3 which was also at Wimbledon — OB 7 offers the most advanced audio and HD video recording and routing technologies within an ergonomically enhanced production environment. Work is already underway at MHz’s Ely facility for the build out of the third vehicle, claimed to be the largest HD OB truck to be commission in the UK, which is due to go into service at the end of 2009.
Stadiums & Venues
In association with its Canadian parent, AZCAR Technologies Incorporated, MHz will provide the AVIT facilities for the latest Cisco Systems' Executive Briefing Centre being commissioned at its London headquarters near Heathrow.
Cisco, a worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, is implementing this new facility following the success of its pilot project in Bangalore which was completed by AZCAR.
MHz customers greatly benefit from the company having much of its capabilities in-house including, CAD design, wiring, coach building and cabinet making as this enables them to provide fast turnaround for customers with new or refurbishment projects.
The company not only offers 24x7 maintenance support for customers such as the London Stock Exchange and SIS LIVE, but also provides valuable upgrades and safety check facilities for production vehicle owners including GlobeCast, BT and CNN.
"Megahertz has been extremely busy over the last six months with a wide variety of projects across a broad range of production facilities," said Greg Hoskin, Managing Director of Megahertz.
"We have built a reputation for providing consultancy and systems integration solutions that are customer-focused and the repeat business that continues to flow back to MHz is proof of this success."
Hoskin continued: "Our ability to address the specific needs of our clients has allowed us to minimise their risk during these challenging economic times, while delivering the most suitable technical and operation solutions that ensure a real return on investment."
