Microvideo's Series 300 Ushers In Paradigm Shift In Signal Processing
A leading supplier of signal processing and data insertion technologies for the broadcast, IPTV, cable and satellite industries, Microvideo, has announced the launch of its brand new Series 300 audio/video processing platform, a paradigm shift in signal processing and ancillary data transmission.
The Series 300 hardware platform's function is determined by the software that runs on it, which can be changed by the user as required. Users can repurpose the hardware from a switch to a logo generator, a frame sync to a delay, a downstream keyer to a data inserter and much, much more simply by swapping industry standard SD cards or downloading software over a network. With the Series 300, as requirements change, so it can too, providing the ultimate future-proof solution.
Because the specific functionality is contained within the software, the notion of broadcasters having to bear the cost and complexity of single function hardware for every application in a given transmission path is a thing of the past. The Series 300 reduces planning and design time as well as installation costs.
Ian Hudson, Microvideo Chief Executive Officer, said: "This is an all-encompassing alternative to the minefield of single-function boxes that currently constitute the solution to ancillary data transmission and signal processing.
"Because the Series 300 is a single hardware platform it allows design, manufacturing and management overheads to be amortised over a far higher quantity than traditional broadcast products. That cost reduction is passed directly to the customer representing tremendous unit cost savings."
In one fell swoop, the Series 300 - a digital signal processing board capable of processing any digital audio or video signal - cuts an elegant swatch through an antiquated, overly-complex and cost-ineffective set of technologies and provides system engineers with a very simple choice.
Series 300 modules are network-ready and access to configuration, control management and functions are all built-in to a web interface; no patches to download, no proprietary software, no dedicated hardware.
Access is available anywhere on a network using a web address. It can also be controlled by front panel controls, either in-built or as a remote unit and through automation GPIs.
The Series 300 allows up to six units in a 1U frame and up to 13 in a 3U. The unique foldout panel allows both card-edge and front panel displays to be adjusted and viewed simultaneously.
Cooling is front-to-back so there is no risk of hot air being drawn in from an adjacent unit as there is on some of the less considered products on the market.
Hudson concluded: "This is a technology that allows system design engineers to rip up today's giant catalogues and to start again with just a single platform. System problems that have previously been ignored, or have required complex workarounds, can now be tackled cost-effectively, head-on. This is one industry transformation that can and will be immediately embraced."
