Argosy Demonstrates Latest Fibre Technology At NAB 2009

A leading international supplier of HD broadcast, cables and studio infrastructure products, Argosy, will demonstrate its latest range of products relating to the management of fibre including an SDI fibre video converter, patch panels and new ruggedized fibre optic cables.
Argosy provides a range of single and multi-mode fibres which can be supplied in patch, breakout or in multi-way loose-tube & tight-buffered constructions with 4 to 864 fibres as per requirement.
These cables incorporates internal strength members enabling them to be very versatile and suitable for both internal and external applications whilst maintaining a low weight and shorter bend radiuses for ease of installation.
The company's new BendBright-XS cable is a reduced bend radius single mode fibre cable that has good resistance to macro bend attenuation allowing it to be handled more like a traditional copper cable. This has direct benefits on installation times and reduces associated breakage and failures. BendBright-XS is the first fibre of its kind to market and is unique because, unlike some other fibre manufacturers, it fulfils all three of the relevant ITU recommendations G.652.D, G.657.A and G.657.
BendBright-XS is ideal for deployment in applications that require flexibility as the cable can be easily manipulated. The most suitable applications include confined spaces patch cables, high density areas and outside broadcast vehicles. Its proven performance is seen with over 250,000km already deployed worldwide.
Argosy also has a range of pre-terminated fibre optic patch cords in a variety of lengths and styles to suit a multitude of applications.
Its copper to fibre media converter is well positioned to set a new standard by offering greater distances for the transmission of SDI signals - up to 20km depending on bit-rate being used - at one of the lowest price points available on the market. It works by receiving an HD-SDI electrical input and converting this into a single mode optical signal and supports the transmission of SD-SDI (143-540Mb/s) and HD-SDI (1.485Gb/s). Both transmitter and receiver provide automatic equalisation and input re-clocking to ensure signal integrity.
Mike Purnell, Director at Argosy, said: "In a broadcast environment fibre optics can carry a huge amount of data over long distances - much more so than with conventional copper cables.
"In recent years we have seen more interest in fibre because it offers greater flexibility, increased bandwidth while being lighter and smaller - ideal for space limiting applications."
Purnell continued: "At Argosy we strive to offer solutions that help decision makers reduce their costs across an installation and drive their return on investment - and our fibre offerings are a prime example of this approach."
Argosy provides a wide selection of fibre optic accessories to accompany its range of fibre optic offerings. These solutions complement Argosy's established portfolio of products which include its most popular range of IMAGE HD video cables, connectors, high density HD video patch panels, MDUs, routers, audio jack fields, rack systems, KVM switches, and Sonarae, its audio monitoring system as well as an array of video accessories.
