Pro8mm expand transfer services to offer Digibeta PAL

In a deliberate effort to expand the potential of small gauge film in the professional production arena, Small Format Film and Video, best known for their Pro8mm and Super8 Sound product lines, are to offer Digibeta PAL Mastering for small format film.
The decision to make the substantial investment in the hardware and staff training necessary to provide Digibeta PAL transfers is consistent with the company’s desire to expand their services to their European customers. With the 2000 opening of the company’s UK division, Pro8mm Ltd, President Philip Vigeant recognised that Digital Beta is standard for most high-end media production in Europe.
The ability to use small format film with industry standard video is critical to the future advancements of small gauge in professional production. Many of the leading companies in the field of Digital to 35mm film utilize the PAL system and its 1:1 relationship between film and video for blow-ups. The ability to incorporate small format film stocks in this same production manner allows small format gauge films to expand in this area.
The company’s system utilises a Rank Cintel Digi 4 with Digital Deflection, Meta Speed Digital Servo, and DaVinci 888 for complete image control, including appropriate framing for 16 x 9, Academy 1:185, and Cinemascope. Additionally, sync audio capacity using DAT and single system magnetic and optical audio is available. Film can be transferred from Regular 8, Super8, Single 8, Polavision 8, Pro8, 16mm and Super16.
Several users have benefited immediately from the new Digibeta PAL services offered. These include the BBC, a major European client, and various other production companies abroad who use the PAL Standard for broadcast. Individuals who are using the PAL Standard for blow-ups to 35mm are also taking advantage of the high quality Digibeta PAL Transfers.
