Foxtel Acquires 100 Hours From Granada International Australia

Granada International Australia, part of ITV Global Entertainment, has sold a number of programming packages to Australia's leading subscription TV provider, Foxtel, Peter Iacono, President and Managing Director at ITV Global Entertainment, said.
The deal totals more than 100 hours of programming for Foxtel's History, Bio, Fox Classics, CI and The Comedy Channel and includes such classic films as WWII epics 'Battle Of The River Plate' and 'The Eagle Has Landed', lively comedy 'Weekend At Bernie's' and Noel Coward's romantic drama 'Brief Encounter', along with a number of documentaries including 'The Adventure Of English', 'The Celts' and 'Tour Of Duty'.
Jim Buchan, GM Factual Acquisitions of Foxtel, commented: "We are very happy to be able to continue to source compelling content for our viewers here in Australia. Granada International's diverse catalogue has given us the opportunity to choose shows that will have wide appeal."
Fleur Fahey, GM Acquisitions, said: "The Granada Catalogue is so large and diverse we are continually delighted to find content that suits all these channels from the one supplier."
Augustus Dulgaro, SVP Sales Australia, New Zealand and Japan, who brokered the deal, added: "It's great to be working with the Foxtel owned and operated channels and we are delighted they have taken up another volume selection of on-brand programmes which we know will be a success for them."
In 'The Adventure Of English', Melvyn Bragg ('The South Bank Show') presents a compelling investigation of the spread and development of the English lanaguage. Following the trail from its arrival in Britain in the 5th century to its voyage to the new world with the Pilgrim Fathers, this fascinating documentary offers a story of survival through invasion and near extinction, demonstrating the astounding flexibility of the language we speak today.
Stories of our Celtic history and ancestry have never failed to appeal, and this latest series, 'The Celts', presented by Richard Rudgely, aims to cut through the often clichéd and romanticised images to give a truer picture of Celtic culture.
Throughout the series Rudgely examines every aspect of Celtic life and how they adapted to change to demonstrate that, far from being victims of history, the Celtic tradition still holds strong in Europe today.
'Tour Of Duty', narrated by former SAS solider Andy McNab, uses news material, dramatic reconstructions and actual Ministry of Defence footage combined to tell the real story of British and American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
This compelling series features individual soldiers telling their own incredible stories, and describing the battlefield tactics that can make the difference between life and death.
