Genesis Networks Used By Global Vision For Olympic News Broadcasts
During the 2008 Olympic Games, the Genesis Networks fibre infrastructure will deliver broadcast news feeds to global audiences from key Beijing landmarks as part of a service offered to news teams by Global Vision, a leading provider of broadcasting and transmission services in the Asia/Pacific region.
From August 1 to 26, Global Vision will be offering transmission services from two iconic locations in Beijing: a site overlooking the Olympic Green with views of Olympic Games venues such as the Bird's Nest and Water Cube, and the Ancient Observatory, built in 1442 during the Ming Dynasty and offering sweeping views of downtown Beijing.
Global Vision will also provide satellite news gathering (SNG) vehicles broadcasting locations in and around the city. For occasional-use feeds, as well as news teams broadcasting from a single location for the duration of the Beijing Olympics, Global Vision will provide integrated live stand-up and playout services for the "first mile" of video delivery out of Beijing. Genesis Networks will then pick up the feeds for delivery over the Genesis terrestrial fibre networks to major media hubs on all other continents beyond Asia.
Michael Fleck, President of Global Vision, said: "In order to serve a wide range of geographically dispersed customers often on short notice, we knew we needed a solution that would extend the reach of our satellite capabilities and provide the lower latency, increased flexibility, and additional value that a fibre network would offer. With its vast international video transmission capabilities and world-class service, Genesis Networks was the ideal choice for our Beijing Olympics service."
Doug Triblehorn, Genesis Networks' Vice President, Asia/Pacific, said: "The Global Vision Beijing service offering is an excellent example of how terrestrial fibre can complement satellite transmissions for international delivery of breaking news. By downlinking and carrying high-quality video feeds out of Asia and to broadcast hubs worldwide, Genesis Networks is helping Global Vision's customers deliver breaking news and features from the Beijing Olympics - without the loss in quality that sometimes results from multiple satellite hops."
