DiBcom's Mobile TV Receiver Enables FTA TV On LG Handset
DiBcom, a provider of Mobile TV solutions, has announced that its latest generation Mobile TV receiver enables Free-To-Air (FTA) TV on the new LG HB620T mobile phone.
This new and sophisticated HSDPA device adds the digital terrestrial broadcast standard (DVB-T) to its long list of functions.
The LG HB620T is the first clamshell phone to offer FTA Mobile TV combined with 3G+ communication, giving consumers a new combination of mobile access. It incorporates a two-inch, TV friendly landscape, LCD display with image quality enhancing technology, and a full set of multimedia features, notably a digital camera, jukebox, video player and Bluetooth support.
The LG HB620T is praised for both image quality and reliable TV reception. The phone was even tested at high speeds on the German Autobahn and images remained excellent, thanks to DiBcom's significant expertise gained in the automotive sector. The company's Mobile TV technology is continuously used in top-tier automobiles throughout Europe.
DiBcom's fifth generation chipset is the fruit of a long and field proven experience providing Mobile TV solutions. This power efficient and cost effective front-end TV receiver offers high performance for all targeted markets, including the automotive, PC and PND sectors. Processing both DVB-T and DVB-H signals, DiBcom's state-of-the-art component is the ideal choice for LG and other phone manufacturers striving to offer devices that support either standard with the same design and same low-level driver software.
LG plans to launch other versions of this phone, to be known as the HB620 and KB620, which will support respectively DVB-H CBMS and DVB-H OMA-BCAST. The two devices will be based on the same DiBcom receiver.
These latest handsets represent yet another successful project between LG and DiBcom.
LG previously selected DiBcom technology to empower their DVB-H Mobile TV phones, now recognised as a key accomplishment in Mobile TV, namely in Italy.
Mr Doo-whan Sang, Vice President of LG Electronics Mobile Communication Company, said: "DiBcom and LG are pioneers in the digital Mobile TV industry and are at the forefront of innovation. Together we have been able to provide some of the best selling devices on the market.
"With DVB-T, we are thrilled to bring a new and seamless Mobile TV viewing experience to European consumers," he said.
Yannick Lévy, CEO of DiBcom, said: "After our successful cooperation in Italy, we are very proud to partner once again with LG to offer a unique Mobile TV solution for Germany. When we initially introduced our first DVB-T component in 2002, mobile phones were still black & white. It is a dream come true to see how Mobile TV technology has evolved from the automobile, PC and other handheld markets, to today's highly sophisticated mobile phones."
Initially targeted for the German market, the LG HB620T phone if currently available through Vodafone and T-Mobile.
