MPC create visual effects for Bond movie
MPC have created visual effects for some key sequences in the new Bond film, 'Die Another Day'.
As well as creating effects for the film, MPC also posted the video of the title track Die Another Day, performed by Madonna.
MPC’s effects include an underwater sequence where Bond is swimming below ice. Being shot underwater meant that the quality of the green screen and the lighting were not perfect, so a lot of refining in post was required in order to extract the fine detail of the bubbles, hair and body shape, and remove noise from the shots. Additional bubbles and interactive lighting were also composited into the sequence.
MPC also created effects for the dramatic finale of the film in which Bond plummets in a free-falling helicopter. In order to achieve these effects Bond was filmed in a moving helicopter against a bluescreen, and specifically shot background plates where graded, manipulated and composited into the shots. To avoid crew and equipment reflections, the helicopter was shot without a windscreen, which was added in post. MPC provided both 2D and 3D solutions to create a realistic windscreen, complete with moving reflections, light sources, clouds and close proximity falling burning debris.
MPC also created other effects such as element enhancements and wire removal.
