Magic Light Pictures And Skillset Announce 2008 Placement Scheme

Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries, and production company Magic Light Pictures have launched the Producer Placement Programme. This will put eight up-and-coming producers into a varied series of work placements in key areas of the British Film Industry.
It’s aimed at giving a career boost to people who have already taken the first steps towards producing Feature Films.
“Great producers need creative talent and judgement but in order to get their films to audiences they also need business acumen. By exposing emerging producers to the business realities of deal making, green lighting, sales, distribution and exhibition, the PPP will equip emerging Film Producers to initiate, finance and sell successful British Films and create sustainable businesses,” said Janine Marmot, Director of Film, Skillset
“We’re delighted to be bringing together talented emerging producers, then working with key film companies to give these young producers a real sense of the market forces which shape the industry. It’s a great opportunity for the producers; and we’re delighted to be working with Skillset in creating this programme,” said Martin Pope of Magic Light Pictures.
PPP placements will learn inside information on what happens and what matters to film businesses and why they make the creative and business choices and decisions that they do.
The placements will be augmented by a series of evening master-classes, workshops and ‘audiences with’ industry personalities, allowing access to the knowledge and experience of key players in the film industry.
The programme is focussed on the business of the film industry and the operations of companies along the film value chain and participants will gain an understanding of the business processes involved in making films and reaching audiences.
Uniquely, the trainee producers will each receive a salary during the seven month programme and there is no charge for participation.
