APT Announce Major Install At Danish Media Group
As more and more radio stations migrate their infrastructure to IP-based systems, APT have revealed that demand for their WorldNet Oslo audio multiplexer platform has never been greater.
The company has just announced another major installation, this time with Danish Radio station Syddanske Medier, part of the Orkla Media Group, who have selected the WorldNet Oslo as a key element in their new, country-wide, IP audio distribution infrastructure.
The new Point-to Multi-point STL system employed by Syddanske Medier is based on an MPLS IP Broadcast Network and enables the distribution of individual program feeds with insertion of local news coverage, commercials and RDS data. Having investigated several options, the company opted for APT's WorldNet Oslo as it combined the reliability, modularity and audio quality they required with the ability to seamlessly integrate with their Dalet playout system and C-Net technology.
Syddanske Medier's Technical Manager, Thomas Keep commented: "We installed the WorldNet Oslo units a year ago at our 8 transmitting sites and, with our service provider Tele Danmark installing quality of service (SLA) on all lines, I was delighted with the rock-solid stability of these WorldNet Oslos supplying our transmitting sites."
Flexible and comprehensive control over the units in the field was a key issue for Keep.
"The WorldNet Oslo units provide me with very good remote possibilities, enabling me to connect to all the units both at work home or wherever there is an internet connection, this gives me very versatile solution to our network and equipment monitoring.
"The APT CMS software GUI gives me at-a-glance status so that I can monitor all functions of the hardware/network of our STL broadcasting system. This allows me to manage both audio and data services from remote locations, enabling me to identify any possible problems and make remote changes to the configurations of the Oslo units."
Peter Sperling, Sales Manager with APT's Danish distributor, AVIT Systems said: "Right from the start we could see that the WorldNet Oslo was perfect for Syddanske Medier's requirement. The platform offered them the ability to send broadcast-grade audio content to their nine main transmitter sites using flexible multicast operation. The integration with Dalet and the C-Net RDS Screamer was critical as it enabled them to automatically insert local news and commercials and also relay dynamic RDS data to the transmitter network."
"As with all IP networking, delay was a concern and, in this application in particular, we needed to change between main and local content 'on-the fly'.
"The low delay Enhanced apt-X coding on the WorldNet Oslo meant that we could offer a solution for a seamless switch-over!"
Sperling continued: "Lastly, the modularity of the unit was important as Syddanske Medier were unsure of their exact future requirements and needed to be sure they could easily add in extra audio channels, aux data options or transport methods if required."
The station purchased nine systems in total, all with duplex audio modules which enables them to monitor and record the return signal as required by Danish law.
