Stewart Till appointed head of UIP
Stewart Till has been appointed chairman and chief executive officer of United International Pictures (UIP).
Rob Friedman, chief operating officer at Paramount Pictures and Marc Shmuger, vice chairman of Universal Pictures, made the announcement.
Till's arrival at UIP, the international theatrical releasing arm of Paramount and Universal, follows cuts at Signpost Films, the worldwide film production and distribution company he founded a year ago.
Till had hoped to mould Signpost in the likeness of PolyGram Filmed Entertainment (PFE), where he served as president of international from 1992-99.
However his ambitions were thwarted when backer CDP Capital Communications demanded cuts at Signpost's London and Los Angeles offices in response to a lack of investing partners.
