Crawley Elected Bectu Assistant General Secretary

Luke Crawley has been elected as Bectu's new Assistant General Secretary.
In a union members' ballot Crawley received 2,263 votes, whilst 1,629 were cast for alternative candidate, Willy Donaghy.
Crawley commented: "I am very pleased to have won and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.
"Now that the elections are over we need to get on with the job of supporting the members and building BECTU into a stronger union in the BBC, Arts and Entertainment and Independent Broadcasting."
Luke Crawley began work for the BBC in 1982, and was active at Branch, News & Current Affairs Sub-Divisional, and BBC Divisional levels, as well as the NEC, before joining BECTU as a full-time National Official in 1993.
Organising and representing members in BBC World Service, Transmission and Resources, he became Supervisory Official for the union’s BBC Division in 1998, following Gerry Morrissey’s appointment as Assistant General Secretary of the union.
Since then he has led top-level negotiations with the BBC through several difficult years.
Arts & Entertainment, BBC and Independent Broadcasting Division members were balloted to fill the vacancy created by the election of Gerry Morrissey to General Secretary.
