Irish Producer On The Move At Cannes Film Festival

Irish producer Martina Niland, whose credits include the successful Irish films 'Once' and 'Pavee Lackeen' has been selected as the Irish producer on the move for the Cannes International Film Festival 2007 which runs from 16 to 27 May.
The 'Producer on the Move' initiative aims to support enterprising European producers and is run by European Film Promotion. The scheme offers a comprehensive platform to a group of the most promising European producers in Cannes and provides them with international attention via a promotional campaign during the festival. During the festival, EFP also organises a round table meeting and a co production lunch with producers from all over Europe to give the selected producers access to a professional forum in order to discuss current projects and lay the foundation for future collaborations.
Martina Niland graduated in Communications (Film & Broadcasting) from the Dublin Institute of Technology and has worked for over eight years in the Irish film industry. Niland is currently working with Samson Films one of Ireland's leading production companies, where she is developing a slate of feature film projects.
Previous credits include Dudi Appleton's quirky offbeat comedy 'The Most Fertile Man In Ireland' and Karl Golden's critically acclaimed debut feature 'The Honeymooners' in 2003. In early 2004, Martina met Perry Ogden and began working with him on his debut feature Pavee Lackeen which she then co-produced. In 2005, the film won the award for Best First Irish Film at the Galway Film Fleadh, the IFTA Best Irish Film and received the Satyajit Ray Award in London and the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Award in Mannheim.
In 2006, Niland produced John Carney's Bachelors Walk, a RTE one-hour special for Christmas 2006 as well as his feature film Once, a modern day musical, which won the World Cinema Audience Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival & the Dublin International Film Festival.
